- Structural frame
- Access walkways
- Access stairs
- Handrails
- Kickplates
- Mesh flooring
The Project
A two-tier mezzanine floor was designed and constructed for a food processing factory. The structure was engineered to endure significant vibrations generated by the plant’s operations and built to support the substantial weight of machinery during use.
The Challenge
The scope of the project was initially limited to fabricating the structural components, with the design being outsourced by the client to an external firm. While we successfully liaised with the design company, their output was not suitable for fabrication drawings. This created the need for additional design adjustments, which were handled internally by our in-house designers to ensure the project could proceed seamlessly.
The Response
The structure consisted of over 70 tonnes of steel columns, trusses and specialised anti-vibration braces as well as access walkways, grated flooring, railings, kickplates and safety staircases. All components were fabricated at our CE Certified factory and installed by our specialised installation team.
Given the nature of the structure, it needed to support heavy machinery and withstand significant vibration forces. To address this, anti-vibration fixings were deemed critical to prevent potential failures over time. After careful evaluation, we selected Huck Bolts due to their proven durability and primary use in demanding applications such as the aerospace industry. These fixings required specialised machinery for installation and involved significant lead times for procurement.
To overcome these challenges, we collaborated closely with Huck, a new supplier. They not only manufactured the fixings to our specifications but also provided the necessary machinery for accredited installation. Such was the success of this process; we collaborated with Huck to develop a detailed case study showcasing the installation process.
This partnership ensured the structural integrity of the project while maintaining efficient cost and time management.
